Church in a Pub

When you look at the life Jesus lived, the people He spent time with and the places He hung out, you can’t help but ask yourself the question – what would that look like if He was here today. Given that we have been empowered by the Holy Spirit and Jesus has commissioned us to actually do what He did in the world today – we are asking ourselves that question as we embark on the church plant – seeking to Be The Church.

There are lots of definitions we could use for the word church (perhaps another post) but if we go back to Paul’s writings where he talks about ecclesia (which we translate to church), then it is simply defined as an assembly or gathering.

So as we plant the church we are looking for a place where we can gather, that allows us to meet and Love People in our modern world, that represents the same people that Jesus loved 2000 years ago. Perhaps a good starting point is somewhere like a pub.

Ultimately we want to Be The Church and this occurs in all parts of life, not just one building, as we Love God and Love People. Saying that, we need a regular time and a place where we can bring all the people in our community together to have that love God encounter. If that is somewhere that is more relevant and accessible to people who have not met God yet, then that is a good indication we are in the right place.

The great news is that during this week it was confirmed that we have locked in the Breakers Bar at the White Sands Tavern in Scarborough – both for our initial information session as well as our Sunday Sessions, commencing later in the year. The way it unfolded showed it was clearly in God’s hands. We thank Him as it all starts to become very real and our excitement builds as we get closer to the launch. A couple of happy snaps here so you can see what it looks like on the inside.

Be The Church…

One problem with the pictures – there is no people in there yet… I’m looking forward to the next shot when it’s packed with empowered people, impacting this community for Jesus!
